Recruitment Booths at Harlem & Thomson Festivals

See photos in October Activities under Community

The camp unanimously voted that we would staff a recruitment booth at the Oliver Hardy Festival and the Camellia City Festival.  Our presence at the Oliver Hardy Festival gleaned twelve prospective members.  Thank you to those who helped in Harlem:   David Butler, Lannie Hightower, Tom Holley, Mike Lacefield, Jimmy McDaniel, Durham and June Milburn, Patric Parker, Lewis and JoAnn Smith, and Gary Wilkes.
Please consider working at the Camellia City Festival in Thomson.  Since we will not meet before this event, please contact me so I can confirm the schedule.
Tom Holley is bringing the tent, an 8’ table, an ancestry sign and four folding chairs.  David Butler is bringing the banner, zip ties, and signup notebook.  Mike Lacefield is bringing the flags.  We need at least five members present during each shift.
  • Camellia City Festival  --  Thomson  --  Sat., Oct. 23  -- 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • 150th Anniversary of McDuffie County
  • Booth set-up by 9:00 a.m.
  • Variety of performances throughout the day
  • 7:00 pm - Closing performance by singer Daniel E. Johnson, then fireworks.
  • The start and stop times are a bit different but we will need to staff the booth for approximately 8 hours.
  • Tom, David and Mike will work as above. Therefore, two additional members will be needed for the morning and five for the later shift.

Announcements

1.  Please pray for our most senior member, Durham Milburn and brother Phil Turner.
2.  Camp 91 Shirts   --   It has been suggested that we investigate a camp custom embroidered shirt with our logo and camp name on them. We would have to decide the type of shirt - long sleeve, short sleeve, dress shirt, golf shirt, etc. and also decide on the information. However, before that we would have to decide:
  • Do we wish to pursue it?
  • If yes, we must decide on the following,  Which type of shirt?
  • How much are we willing to spend per shirt?
  • Who will volunteer to gather specific info and coordinate the order?
  • This will be an agenda item at the next meeting.  Please give it consideration for discussion.  Various types of shirts with the SCV logo are available at https://scv.org/.  They could be purchased and then embroidered with the camp name.
3. Check out “Clary USMC Crate,” under Local History:       thomsonguardscamp91gascv.com.  The crate is on display at the Thomson- McDuffie Museum through the end of October which includes the Camellia City Festival.
