Hamilton Rangers

The Hamilton Rangers were organized in Thomson, Georgia, (then Columbia County, now McDuffie County) with 112 men and left Thomson by April 1862 to train at Camp Donaldson, Grahamville, South Carolina.  By late May, they were camped below Richmond, Virginia, and were Company K, part of the 48th Georgia Infantry Regiment.  Over the course of the four year war, 131 soldiers became part of this company.

Twenty-six of these soldiers died in combat; these are indicated by an “*”.  Twenty others died of disease; no doubt some from battle wounds.  These are indicated by a “+”.  Of the 131 soldiers that mustered into Company K, 23 answered the muster roll call at Appomattox Court House.
