Ramsey Volunteers

The Ramsey Volunteers were organized in Appling and Thomson, Georgia, (then Columbia County, now McDuffie County) with 81 men and left Georgia by April 1861 to train at the Old Richmond Fairgrounds.  By late July they were Company K, part of the 16th Georgia Infantry Regiment.  Over the course of the four year war, 102 soldiers became part of this company.

Twenty-one of these soldiers died in combat; these are indicated by an “*”.  Twenty-two others died of disease; no doubt some from battle wounds.  These are indicated by a “+”.  Of the 102 soldiers that mustered into Company K, only 7 answered the muster roll call at Appomattox Court House.
