Confederate Memorials and the
Georgia Division, SCV Legal Defense Fund
Georgia Heritage Legal Defense Fund
Several years ago, the Georgia Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans foresaw the pending assault on our Confederate monuments. They immediately wrote a House bill, which was sponsored and passed, that protected the monuments from destruction or removal. The monuments in Georgia are protected by law! Secondly, in the past general election, we voted on and approved an amendment, again sponsored, was written and passed by the SCV, that gave counties and cities sovereignty. This new sovereign status allows individuals, not just governmental bodies, to be sued when they try to remove a Confederate memorial. Now, the original Georgia law cannot be so easily ignored. This realization has already been successful in curtailing attempts that had already begun or were being considered for monument removal.
These legal efforts are expensive. Camp 91 is proud that it has provided significant donations to continue this important work. As new needs arise, Camp 91 considers supporting the Georgia Heritage Legal Defense Fund as a primary goal. Please make your donations through the camp so that Camp 91 can be recognized as a strong supporter for this cause.
